A worry-free

break

Cheese Room Cottage has been designed to accommodate a wheelchair user with accompanying carer or partner and we are confident that we are providing full disabled access for our guests

There are many features for wheelchair users such as right and left transfer for the toilet and beds, pull-down kitchen shelves and lower-height sink and hob in the kitchen with access underneath. All doors are 850mm width. Thanks to a donation from a regular guest, we now also have a kidney-shaped over chair table for those guests permanently in a wheelchair which is too tall to access the dining table. This over-chair table has a maximum height of 94cm (37”), table width of 107cm (42”) and width between its legs of 83cm (32.5”). Please let us know if this would be of use to you during your stay, otherwise it is stored away.

The comfort-height toilet measures 47.5cm from floor to seat and there is full room width space in front of the toilet (197cm). The folding support rails on either side of the toilet are weight-bearing up to 25 stone. The wall-mounted padded shower seat is also weight-bearing up to 25 stone. The bathroom flooring is non-slip Altro Aquarius and the thermostatically controlled shower has both a wall-mounted circular head and a hand shower attachment. A perching stool and a wheel-in shower chair are available for use on request.

The double bedroom is 410cm wide by 335cm (13 feet 5 inches x 11 feet); the chest of drawers and wardrobe are built in to allow full access around the bed(s) for wheelchair users. The two single profile beds (electric beds where foot and head can be raised independently) can be clipped together as a superking bed and each measure 3 feet wide by 6 feet 3 inches long (please advise when booking if you wish beds to be made up as singles or a superking). Each bed is weight-bearing up to 18 stone. The beds measure 65cm (25.5 inches) from top of mattress to floor to allow the disabled or elderly person to easily get in and out of bed and are also on castors so that one or both beds could be pushed up against the wall if required. Although there are no hoists in the property, there is a gap of 15cm (6 inches) under the beds which is enough to comfortably fit the wheels of a mobile hoist underneath. Mobile hoists and other aid equipment can be hired from a local Shrewsbury company - Ableworld (01743 369427) who will deliver equipment to the cottage the day before your arrival and collect after departure. Another local company who hire out hoists and other equipment is TPG DisableAids (01743 491219). If you have any specific mobility queries, please do not hesitate to contact us.
